July's Meeting is a Potluck Picnic

6/21/2018

POTLUCK PICNIC & BYOB

Eating at 6:30 PM

Sellwood Park, Picnic Area A
(Park map below)

The picnic area is west (toward the river) of the Sellwood Pool. The address of the pool is 7951 SE 7th Ave, Portland, OR 97202.

The park's parking lot is off of SE Malden St & SE 7th Ave

It will be most helpful if you will please bring serving utensils (if needed) for your potluck offering.

According to Portland Parks regulations, "BYOB" means "Canned or bottled beer and wine." I guess that means you should have your gin and tonic either before or after the picnic.

Parking in the neighborhood, once the park's lot is filled, is limited, especially since there will be a free concert ("funk and soul with a twist") in Sellwood Riverfront Park beginning at 6:30. You may want to arrive early.

The Parks' website lists these bus line options: 19, 35, 36, 70, 99

I will be providing ice cream (since it's my turn to bring treats).

There will be a short meeting while we're picnicking.

New Stamp Editing Capability

6/16/2018

Hello Everyone,

I'm pleased to inform you of a new capability brought to you by the IT committee. You can now edit the two-line text of your event stamps. This applies to Traditional Events in the system now and your new YREs/Seasonals for 2019 and beyond. Open the attached file for instructions and follow the procedures as outlined. The capability was demonstrated at our NEC board meeting in New York and I've just now run through the process with my club's account and it works as advertised.

-  Open through Firefox, Chrome, MS Edge, but NOT Internet Explorer, as it may not work as designed.

-  On the first line put in a name for the event and on the second line you'll want City, State:  Vancouver, WA.  You can type lower case, but the software will capitalize everything.

-  You can enter and edit multiple times if the text seems too crowded

-  Edit becomes available to you after your RD approves the event

If you have questions please try me first and if I can't solve it, I'll reach out to the IT committee. Enjoy and have fun with this new enhancement!

Info From Our RD

Hello NW Walkers,

Attached is my walk talk, a summary of the key motions and events at the NEC meeting this past weekend, and a chart that graphically illustrates our participation dilemma. I look forward to hearing from the membership on the many issues that face us. We have a unique opportunity at the Regional Conference for you to speak directly with our board of officers and I hope many of you will take advantage of that opportunity.

Happy Trails,

Tom

Future Events List, June 2018

6/2/2018

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to June! Looks like a great month ahead with ideal weather for walking.  We're off to Brooks, OR, tomorrow for the Fitwalker event. Wish we could get up to Dupont as well, but can't make it to both. It's really good to have options on any weekend to go north, south, or stay local for an event. However, there's always room in the calendar for more events.

Several notes to go along with the list:

First, Lilac City has closed the Spokane Downtown and River Walk (YR 0796) for the year. There is just too much construction going on to keep the walk open.

Next, you'll note that the ESVA event for Sept 2019 is listed as tentative. Both CRVC from OR and ESVA are planning multi-day events that month and we're trying to find a way to make it work for them and you. I've attached a new spreadsheet to help us start looking at our bigger events to help schedule more effectively and find windows of opportunity.  Please look it over and provide feedback on what your club might be planning. Also am interested in hearing the long range plans from our Canadian friends.  You'll note that the odd years are full and even years have a lot of room available, so some re-balancing is needed.

Next week I'm off to Albany, NY, for the NEC meeting and a chance to meet with the next convention committee to continue our efforts to build a spectacular event. If it's not on your calendar yet, you're going to want to jot it down for June 2019.

Happy Trails,
