We hiked Coyote Wall in the Columbia Gorge. As we drove up the Gorge towards Hood River the wind was fierce and we were having second thoughts about whether this hike was possible with 30 degree temperatures and winds topping 25 MPH. When we arrived at the trailhead the wind had died to almost nothing but it was foggy and cold. So off we went. The views from this trail are spectacular it's just a shame we couldn't enjoy them because of heavy fog. It did, however, clear up about half way through the hike. This time of year the trail is muddy and we also encountered snow in the higher elevations. This hike would be difficult to do as a part of the Columbia Gorge event as there are trails all over the hills and it would be difficult to properly mark the trail and ensure the safety of participants. We have pretty much decided to make this available as a guided hike on both Friday and Saturday, June 15-16, leaving Cascade Locks at 10:00 am. Participants at today's (02/05/2012) hike were: Camilo M, John F, Pat J, Susan T, Barbara B, Tom G, Bill & Leslie W and Dick & Carolyn K. More on Coyote Wall Short Loop here and Long Loop here. UPDATE: CRVC Vice-President John F will be leading these group walks for both days. In preparation for the June 2012 Columbia River Gorge Biennial Classic, the Beacon Rock (Washington) Prewalk was completed by Columbia River Volkssport Club members Ed H, Barbara B, Carolyn K, Dick K; and Rose City Roamers club members Camilo M and Wes H.
